Here Comes the Story of the Hurricane

I'm stranded in Ithaca for the day, which makes me very happy!  I get to have extra snuggle time with my honey and watch movies like this Bob Dylan documentary. 

Sia

I've been indulging in Sia's new album We Are Born and she's been brightening my days.  I found this great photo of her from a few years ago.  With a different haircut and when she's not smiling and telling a story about her old boyfriend Muskrat she's almost unrecognizable!

style icon

It's hard to pick a style icon, but I certainly do love the Zooey Deschanel cotton commercial scene where she's wearing the turquoise cardigan and heels. When I was a Sesame Street viewer, my style icon was clear. Crystal Gayle made a couple of appearances that have defined my life. Long hair has always been my style and I remember being a toddler and identifying with her. Some things just inherently resonate with you. Thanks, Crystal!

The Dude Sings

I saw Crazy Heart last weekend and the music was great. Jeff Bridges definitely has a back up plan if this whole acting thing turns sour.

BAM!

Last weekend I saw the Magnetic Fields at BAM. It was so enjoyable! I miss being connected to the music scene. I used to be so much cooler. It's silly to live in Brooklyn and not know what's going on down the street. I need to check out the music at BAMcafe soon.

No Expectations

I haven't watched the Grammy's in about 10 years, but found myself with nothing better to do last night, so I tuned in. It was surprisingly enjoyable. The biggest surprise of the night came from an artist who prompts me to change the station like a reflex- Pink. I find her lyrics to be immature and whiny. Last night I learned that she can sing, and she's an adult. I urge her to keep it up.

I still don't get Taylor Swift though.

Empire State of Mind

Baseball's not my favorite sport- far from it. But I tuned in tonight to catch Jay-Z & Alicia Keys sing my new favorite song, Empire State of Mind. Despite the PLETHORA of unflattering camera angles up Alicia's butt, it was a great performance. I'm a sucker for anything flaunting NYC pride. I'm also a sucker for black and white photos. So here ya go...

I like this girl

I caught Diane Birch on Letterman last night and really enjoyed her performance. Plus, she's sporting my upcoming fall haircut. She's playing a free show on Roosevelt Island on Saturday.
