Back Home

Back in NYC after almost a week away. Road trips are always good for discovering nuances of this ridiculous country I live in. Here's a piece of Virginia's sky.

Pretty

Something delightful to lead into a long weekend. At $25 each, I only have to be a quasi-adult to buy them! Here's the delightfulness from Jean Pelle:

I'm off on my roadtrip to North Carolina!

Oh, Sheet!

These Marimekko sheets from Crate & Barrel are Springy and delightful. I think I'll buy them when I'm an adult.

a place for us...

The shoes that I wear most often are in a heap in the closet or a large Tupperware under my bed. If I had Charlotte Tangye's Footprint, I doubt it would change all that, but it's still kind of neat for display purposes. And who doesn't like to display shoes? (I do, but I think it's probably a little strange.)

one of these things IS like the other

I came across a few things today that reminded me of... other things.
This hand drawn rock by Yoran Morvant reminds me of the Havaianas I just got to kick off the summer.

Incorporating nature in an unnatural way is generally enjoyable to me. This grassy sheep by Grassland evokes a similar kind of joy as the sheep in Burberry stores.

symmetry!

Haven't you always wished your rooms could be vertically symmetrical? Well, Spiral Islands by David Trubridge are here to save the day.

This is why...

...I'm always equipped with my camera. Just when you thought the Kidrobot smoking bunny couldn't get any cuter.

watch this

Over the winter I had a crush on a white Toy Watch. But now I have a new crush. This Lip Mythic Jump Hour watch can be purchased at Watchismo.

cut

Now that I'm done with school for the year, I've got lots of time to play with pretty things. Like this cut paper necklace by Jennaca Davies.

Flashback

I was DYING for this piano phone one Christmas circa 1990. It lived in my childhood bedroom well past college graduation. My friend Aimee had the Garfield phone, and my friend Lauren had the lips phone. I think the burger is from a newer generation of phone awesomeness.
Aaaahhhh....... the memories............

gimme 5

I came across this delightful object from the Cuban ensemble Los Carpinteros in my quest for images that reflect craftsmanship. It makes my argument that in order to be successful in design you must understand construction methods.

Ben Benschneider

Architectural Photographer Ben Benschneider managed to overcome the sillyness of his name to become an accomplished photojournalist. Here are a few of his images.

new and improved

Went to Citi field last night (the new home of the NY Mets) and it was really impressive, i was surprised! The stadium is open to all the circulation and food areas giving it a hang out, summer, baseball feeling.
I couldn't resist taking this picture in the bathroom. It was striking how new and not yet abused everything is. The stall doors are all perfectly aligned on their hinges.

come to mamma

A few things are on their way to me courtesy of the Easter bunny. Although I cursed out Urban Outfitters for the crappiness of their nail polish earlier this week, I've decided to kiss and make up.
Here's some of the items that tempted me.

Jenga House

This house would be great on a day like today. It's not meant for the accident prone however. Lots of edges to impale yourself on.

wheeee!

Now that I've got 2 finals behind me, I have some breathing room for a little while. I feel just like the girl on this Dapple-Grey necklace. Maybe I'll do some dishes.

Save the earth!

If everyone got one of these washUP washing machine/toilets, the polar bears could frolic on their ice caps happily ever after. The washing machine's waste water is used to flush the toilet.

Run free polar bears; happy earth day!

zzz...

2 finals down.
I deserve this...

but I'll more likely have this...

and it will be goooooood.

Procrastination...

WAAAAHHH! Stupid construction drawings taking up my whole day. At least it's crappy out and not taunting me with sunshine and kittens.

I'm going to request that my husband put his woodworking skills to use to rip off this idea from Mike and Maaike.

They're using religious texts, but I would select something else. I'll have to think about it...

Renegade Craft Fair

It's now officially on my calendar. This year it's June 6-7. Here's a sampling of a few things I might find at the fair...

Cakespy magnets.
Thank Christ lent is over. This year was rough- almost as bad as the year I gave up alcohol. I would enjoy it if a cupcake offered me a piece of cake.
Brooklyn Rooftop #1 by Andy Pratt.
This is just like the view out my window! Not really, but my view is really nice too.
Moustache Necklace by Sweet Stella Designs.
Who couldn't use an extra moustache necklace?
