Acrylic!

Aaron Thomas has some great acrylic pieces. Here are a few of my favorites.

I like this girl

I caught Diane Birch on Letterman last night and really enjoyed her performance. Plus, she's sporting my upcoming fall haircut. She's playing a free show on Roosevelt Island on Saturday.

Opportunity Seized

"In March of 2008, a large fire burned the roof and top floor of the 100-year old Brooklyn building that is home to Oso Industries. During the roof’s reconstruction, workers cut out and carted through our shop these huge charred beams with a thick, unique texture. We decided to take this remainder of a destructive event and turn it into something constructive, reinventing the burned wood as polished concrete surfaces for our furniture. Using rubber, we created a mold from the most interesting of these beams, and the Burn series was born."

Palin Prose

As a former editor, I can relate to turning a pile of crap into a masterpiece and not getting any credit for it. This one's a pile of crap for sure. You betcha!

Vanity Fair took Palin's resignation speech and transformed it into something far less embarassing. It's good for a laugh.

craftyness

At the Renegade Craft Fair last weekend in Brooklyn, the hubbs and I enjoyed discovering all the new (to us) vendors. I'm going to call the highlight as Skeledog. Here's a sampling of their work.

Now I'm off to Chicago until the 20th...!!!

Dubai, why?

I found this awesome picture in a New York Times article about the changing trend of shopping malls. Interesting stuff. Dubai scares me.

Love!

Yesterday the hubbs & I celebrated one year of marriage. It's funny to have people congratulate you on being married for a year; wasn't that the plan? It was fun to look back at different times of the day and remember what we were doing at that point on our wedding day.

Back Home

Back in NYC after almost a week away. Road trips are always good for discovering nuances of this ridiculous country I live in. Here's a piece of Virginia's sky.

Pretty

Something delightful to lead into a long weekend. At $25 each, I only have to be a quasi-adult to buy them! Here's the delightfulness from Jean Pelle:

I'm off on my roadtrip to North Carolina!

Oh, Sheet!

These Marimekko sheets from Crate & Barrel are Springy and delightful. I think I'll buy them when I'm an adult.

a place for us...

The shoes that I wear most often are in a heap in the closet or a large Tupperware under my bed. If I had Charlotte Tangye's Footprint, I doubt it would change all that, but it's still kind of neat for display purposes. And who doesn't like to display shoes? (I do, but I think it's probably a little strange.)

one of these things IS like the other

I came across a few things today that reminded me of... other things.
This hand drawn rock by Yoran Morvant reminds me of the Havaianas I just got to kick off the summer.

Incorporating nature in an unnatural way is generally enjoyable to me. This grassy sheep by Grassland evokes a similar kind of joy as the sheep in Burberry stores.

symmetry!

Haven't you always wished your rooms could be vertically symmetrical? Well, Spiral Islands by David Trubridge are here to save the day.

This is why...

...I'm always equipped with my camera. Just when you thought the Kidrobot smoking bunny couldn't get any cuter.

cut

Now that I'm done with school for the year, I've got lots of time to play with pretty things. Like this cut paper necklace by Jennaca Davies.

Flashback

I was DYING for this piano phone one Christmas circa 1990. It lived in my childhood bedroom well past college graduation. My friend Aimee had the Garfield phone, and my friend Lauren had the lips phone. I think the burger is from a newer generation of phone awesomeness.
Aaaahhhh....... the memories............

gimme 5

I came across this delightful object from the Cuban ensemble Los Carpinteros in my quest for images that reflect craftsmanship. It makes my argument that in order to be successful in design you must understand construction methods.
