British Invasion!

I've had my nose in my work so much lately, that when I went to Target over the weekend, I had completely forgotten that the Liberty of London collection had arrived! I scooped up a shirt and a dress and then looked online at the rest of the collection I missed in the store. I love the ties, accessories and housewares.

tea for two and two for tea

The new HBO Grey Gardens movie arrived in the mail today. The original's got many memorable musical numbers in it, but this one always stands out the most in my memory (maybe tied with the Grand Old Flag dance, but that's really more about the dance).
These tea towels are adorable in addition to being made of 100% organic cotton and packaged in a 100% cardboard envelope. The next time I feel like dropping $36 on a set of 2 tea towels, I'll be sure to snatch them up.

Thanks, I needed that!

After a day comprised entirely of poop, my sweet husband surprised me with an evening of dining bliss. Those sushi rolling mats we bought at Zabar's this weekend were the best idea ever!

Shapes!

Tonight I went to an event at MoMA for Shape Lab, an exhibit for children to explore shapes. The coolest idea they employed was painting magnetic sections onto the wall where you could create shapes out of giant magnets. Their text panel was made of magnets on the wall too. I enjoyed playing.

just a paper lamp

when choosing between a paper doll and a lamp there's no longer a conflict! It's not really paper, but doesn't it look like it is?

Erin go Bragh!

I spent the morning with Martha and walked away with this beautiful cookbook. It pays to be Irish. If I had to learn more about cooking (rather than just passing it off to my less culinarily challenged spouse) I would do it here.

Gotta Get OUT!!!

My seasonal affect disorder is begging me to take a trip to Europe (self diagnosed, naturally). While this is not in the cards for many reasons, I can reminisce about previous trips. I can also look forward to Ireland 2012. Yes, I like to plan in advance. This photo makes me want to cry a little, but chin up, my time will come.

Paper Moon

is one of my favorite movies. We all know about Tatum's big win for her role, but I can't believe how the academy robbed Ryan. One of the most memorable performances on film.

The title of the film doesn't bear a great weight on the plot. These period photos of people taking their photos in the paper moon at the fair are wonderfully nostalgic (in a way that nostalgic means yearning for a time before you were born in my case).

God Bless America

I'm going to a wedding in Tahoe over the 4th of July this year. As we all know, weddings are a great way to justify dress and accessory purchases, which is why I'm thinking of it this so far in advance. I'll have to check with the bride if she would like her guests to dress thematically. If not, I'm sure I could find occasion to show my patriotism via earrings other times of the year.

so, we all know...

that cardboard is a delightfully cheap and alternative and hipster and tree hugger material to use for building furniture. I am hoping to have some brilliant solution to our zero budget bookstore at the ADHS. I am counting on cardboard to give me a hand. Here's some images that I'm counting on to spawn the big idea...

This last one is from foldschool. I think this is the most useful for plagiarizing.

The Dude Sings

I saw Crazy Heart last weekend and the music was great. Jeff Bridges definitely has a back up plan if this whole acting thing turns sour.

sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!

These dainty studs from peapod treasures are irresistible! There's so many I like, I'll have to sleep on it and make a rational decision tomorrow.

Who tall are you?

That's exactly what you'll find out when you get this mirror. You can see how you measure up against celebrity heights. Who knew Bobby D was so short?

looking ahead... still.

I have 3 weddings to go to this summer, which is a great way to justify buying dresses. 2 weddings are in Northern California, so I need to have a Summery look with some warmth to it. I've put this outfit together in my mind.

I was at Anthropologie today, but didn't see this cardigan in the store. I'm hoping those little petals will come off easily with a seam ripper. And that it goes on sale.

I found this dress last year in the VS catalog. I think I'll break down and get it this year. It's been waiting patiently for me!

hot for dot

Can you tell I'm ready for Spring? At least a little Spring dressing (under a sweater and coat) will satiate me for a little while longer.

A Date with Kate

I love the Kate Spade print ads, especially for her china. They really work to brighten up a winter day. It also doesn't hurt that they're having their "sample sale" online. Still a bit out of the budget, but a girl can dream.

things to come...

I love the current homepage of ModCloth. These paper flowers are a welcome reminder that Spring is around the corner.

In my Dreams

If I had these boots I would be a happier person. I would be richer, thinner, smarter, and everyone would love me.

BAM!

Last weekend I saw the Magnetic Fields at BAM. It was so enjoyable! I miss being connected to the music scene. I used to be so much cooler. It's silly to live in Brooklyn and not know what's going on down the street. I need to check out the music at BAMcafe soon.

Jazz, Man

Tonight is the opening for the Jazz Loft Exhibition at the Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. It will be exciting to see it all put together after being a part of the installation process for the last 2 weeks. My favorite photos are the ones he took out the window. City watching out an upper story window is an experience all New Yorkers can relate to.

a travelin

I'm pretty content to be broke most of the time, but if I had more money I'd definitely enjoy traveling more. I enjoyed dreaming about Amsterdam while looking at it covered by a blanket of snow. Have I mentioned that I love snow?

All You Need is Love

The hubby made me heart shaped pizza for our first Valentine's Day together. This year we made a cherry pie with heart shaped crust. We're too adorable for words.

fun with food

I love these food creatures. It's not a coincidence that my favorites involve garlic and cheese.

work time = play time

As an excellent start to NY fashion week, I got to poke around in the Museum of the City of New York's fashion archives. It's quite a closet. I spent some quality time in the '60s. It made me vow to dress for success every day. Here's some pieces that took my breath away.

Yes, please!

A kid's gotta be resourceful when there's no front yard!

These affordable cards are a timely find. The second one is especially convenient for those of us with Southern Valentines.

paper cut

That's my house! I'm actually further west than that, but as decorative maps go, this one's pretty cool.

bleh

I am solidly in the midst of the Winter blues. Plus I've had a slow healing injury impeding my ability to workout. I am hoping this upcoming storm will take a turn north so we get walloped in Brooklyn. A coating of snow makes everything look so peaceful and lovely. Then I will stop feeling like this:

No Expectations

I haven't watched the Grammy's in about 10 years, but found myself with nothing better to do last night, so I tuned in. It was surprisingly enjoyable. The biggest surprise of the night came from an artist who prompts me to change the station like a reflex- Pink. I find her lyrics to be immature and whiny. Last night I learned that she can sing, and she's an adult. I urge her to keep it up.

I still don't get Taylor Swift though.
