Happy Halloween!

I'm headed to the parade.  Hopefully I'll see things as spooky as these...

trick or sweet!

There's no need for me to consume more sugar after a weekend of Halloween parties, but these skull sugar cubes are pretty irresistible.

Happy Weekend!

I'm looking forward to a weekend of Halloween partying and sweet Fall treats.  A breakfast of scary eggs or pumpkin pancakes is definitely in order!

Monetary Mischeif

This Moneygami puts a funky twist on currency.  Maybe Matt will get some inspiration to add a boat hat to his Lincoln Halloween costume.  That would just be confusing.

Haute Halloween

Alexander McQueen comes to mind as the obvious choice for high fashion Halloween appropriate looks, but here's a group of runway looks that would be appropriate to wear to a frightful fete.

Bulbous

I enjoy an exposed bulb.  This fixture provides a nice frame.

Sleep No More

Last night I experienced Sleep No More.  A performance that takes place set in a 1920s hotel where you follow the performers around and are free to explore the 100 room extraordinarily decorated set.  The experience was less about following a linear narrative and more about exploring and experiencing moments in motion.  People who have returned have said they experience and entirely different show each time.  These reviews summarize the experience well from NY Mag, NY Times and another from the Times.

a look

The hair, the look, the lace... stunning.  I love the theatrics of fashion photography.

DIY inspiration

This neon rope necklace is pretty exciting.  I'll bet my Navy trained hubby could make me a mean rope necklace.

the dude abides

The Big Lebowski has inspired many a cool thing, but this might be my favorite.

insomnia pumpkins

You have to be crazy like Martha to stay up all night carving these pumpkins so intricately.  They are lovely though.

body art- the next generation

This is the coolest thing I've seen... maybe ever.  Now you can get a tattoo with blacklight reactive ink.  I'm heading over to the parlor now.

52 weeks of yum

This calendar is worthy of abandoning technology.  Food graphics are always so irresistible!

propelled

I'll add this to my funky chandelier list for my future chandelier needs.

sweet dreams sale

Anthro is offering 25% off bedding.  If I were in the market, I'd snatch up this pattern.

Yago Hortal

Happy, swirly paintings for a grey Tuesday morning.

Just when I thought I was out...

Just when I was getting completely bored with summer dressing and all my non layerable options in the midst of oppressive heat, I came across this image that sums up all that's right with easy breezy summer dressing.  I'll still enjoy my layers until it's time for this again.

Hello Halloween

Who knew there are so many people into making Hello Kitty jack-o-lanterns?  But then when you think about it... of course there are.

clutch crush

What I really need is a new every day shoulder bag.  What I'm really more tempted by are these divine clutches from Jason Wu.

speckled

I painted my room today and a fun byproduct was that the white paint I used speckled my purple manicure.  I'll have to try to do this on purpose some time!

a roof above

Herzog and de Meuron expressed the individuality of the Museum der Kulturen Basel by giving it a hat.  I like it among the landscape more than on its own.  Good thing it's part of a landscape.

Foodscape

Wouldn't it be amazing to make a living creating art like this?  Something to work toward.

Julie Eilenberger

Sculpture, and beading, and color, oh my!  Julie Eilenberger's designs are inspired by science fiction and old Hollywood movies.  Plus, she's got a collection called Marry Me Nature.  What's not to love?

International Scandal

I was completely unaware that Zara has a home line that's available in other countries.  Zara, don't you think your American friends would like some delightfully affordable housewares too?  I mean really.

Lovely lemon!

Up a Tree Down Under

Is New Zealand down under, or just Australia?  Anyway, today's beautiful weather makes me want to commune with nature.  What a beautiful dining spot!

Horray for Friday!

It's going to be a beautiful weekend!  Here are some cheerful paper sculptures in celebration.

To Do

This accurately describes my tasks at hand.  It's also much cuter than my current mode of recording to do lists- on a bunch of post its floating around my purse.

A love letter to Bryant Park

I've been working on Bryant Park for the past 6 months and it looks like we're moving to a new space sooner rather than later.  I've really enjoyed looking out at the trees and eating lunch in the park.  It's a beautiful park with seasonal plantings, games, books, a carousel, and lots of fun special events.  I'll miss you, BP!

solar statement piece

I love how unnecessary this solar powered necklace is.  If I were inclined to wear jewelry that lights up, I'd go for it.  It would be cool if you could plug it in to other things to power them as you go about your day.

F U, D Train!

I could have taken a horse and buggy to work quicker than my ride on the D train this morning!  Uuugggghh!  But oddly, I am nostalgic for a time (before I was born, so is that nostalgia?) when there were trolley cars and gas lanterns.  It's really all about managing your expectations I guess.  It would be more satisfying to be on a trolley for an hour at maximum efficiency than to hear the train conductor scream at people to stop holding the doors for 20 minutes.  Here's a great sign I'd love to have from the pre-Helvetica days of NYC subway signage.

Rocktober

October is here and it's frighteningly chilly!  There's a lot to look forward to though.  Changing leaves, Halloween, pumpkin pancakes, and a trip to New Orleans!  This image is helping me to get into a spooky mood.  Edward Gorey was always my favorite part of Masterpiece Theater.
